Titans WR A.J. Brown tried to give No. 11 to new teammate Julio Jones; WR will wear this instead

Hours after news broke that Julio Jones was relinquishing No. 11 to A.J. Brown, the Tennessee Titans revealed the jersey number of their newly acquired receiver.

Jones will wear No. 2 with the Titans, taking advantage of a new NFL rule allowing more positions to wear single-digit jersey numbers.

In his short time since he was dealt to Tennessee, Jones has already impressed at least one of his new teammates.

Brown, who has spent a lot of time recruiting Jones on social media, has worn No. 11 since he was drafted by the Titans in 2019. But Jones, his newest teammate, wore No. 11 for his entire 10-year career with the Atlanta Falcons. One of them was going to have to switch numbers.

Brown wanted Jones to have the number he has worn since he was a rookie, so he tried to give it to him. But Jones wouldn't take it. He let Brown keep his number, and Brown was deeply impressed.

If Jones was traded a year earlier, he couldn't have worn a single-digit jersey number even if he wanted to. Only quarterbacks, punters, and kickers were allowed to wear single digits on their jerseys. All that changed in April when the NFL relaxed its jersey regulations and allowed tight ends, wide receivers, running backs, and defensive backs to wear single digits.
