TikTok had no idea McDonald’s sells $9 birthday cakes, and the unboxing videos are going viral: ‘I’m sorry, what?’

A secret menu item at McDonald’s is blowing up on TikTok and inspiring millions to hit up their nearest drive-through: a $9 sheet cake, complete with a Ronald McDonald screen print.

While we’ve seen food industry secrets go viral in the past — like the heartbreaking truth behind those deliciously sizzling fajita dishes in restaurants like Applebee’s and Denny’s — this elusive cake, found only at the Golden Arches, is blowing TikTok’s mind.

While the cake can’t be found on McDonald’s online menu, searching for “birthday cake” on the site will yield two results: Ronald Birthday Cake Chocolate and Ronald Birthday Cake White.

Neither page displays the cake’s price, nor where or how it can be purchased. Only the nutrition facts and ingredients are listed, along with a photo of the cake.

However, despite this lack of information, some TikTokers have managed to procure the sheet cake — and their unboxing videos are being met with shock and disbelief.

“how am i just now learning at 24 years old that mcdonalds has cake?” asked @myownparasites.

“THEY SELL CAKES???? WTFFF???” wrote @jacobhuskethlover.

“I’m sorry, what?” commented @loriandzilla.

For some, however, the cakes come as no surprise.

“Do y’all not remember when McDonald’s used to hold birthday parties and they had the cake!!!?” asked @caitcaitcaitlinx.

And while TikTokers have proven these mysterious cakes do in fact exist, mysteries continue to swirl around the secret menu item.

According to some TikTok comments, the cakes can only be purchased wherever there’s a PlayPlace — while others claim they’re intended for employees’ birthdays but can be purchased upon request.

And while some TikTokers and media outlets report the cakes only cost $9 each, TikTok user @mittenglove stated in a comment he was only charged $5, while user @davidten10 provided a receipt that reflects his cake cost $19.99.

Today spoke to a McDonald’s rep and reported that “all McDonald’s owners/operators across the country have the option of ordering the cakes … from their local distribution center. … Occasionally, restaurants decide to let customers purchase the cakes, but they’re not on the official menu and you won’t find them at all locations.”
