Golfers honor Tiger Woods with iconic Sunday red: 'It's hard to explain how touching today was'

The golf world is honoring Tiger Woods on Sunday in a stunning display of red and black throughout the country's golf courses.

Woods suffered serious leg injuries in a one-vehicle rollover accident early Tuesday morning. He is continuing to receive care at the hospital following surgeries, but his career is in jeopardy after the accident.

The gesture throughout the sport, naturally, left Woods extremely grateful.

Golfers honor Woods with Sunday red

Athletes have sent well-wishes throughout the week. It appeared to be Rory McIlroy who led this weekend's movement to honor Woods in a more visual way.

Rory, who said Woods' recovery was more important than golf on Thursday, said late Saturday he would wear black pants and a red shirt at the final round of the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship in Florida.

It's an homage to Woods' signature outfit worn on Sundays for the final round of tournaments. And the movement spread to the Gainbridge LPGA tournament as well as casual golfers.

Bryson DeChambeau also used a ball with "Tiger" typed on it, as did other professional golfers around the country.

The maintenance staff at the Puerto Rico Open all donned their black and red for a team photo.

And players at the Bainbridge Open, including Annika Sorenstam and her squad in her first LPGA event since 2008, broke out the color combo.

Casual golfers are also sharing their Tiger Woods outfits on Sunday, whether they're hitting the links or watching them from the cozy indoors.

Woods was transferred from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles this week. His team said he received follow-up procedures and the 15-time major winner is recovering and in "good spirits."

Collin Morikawa wins WGC-Workday Championship

Thanks to a final-round 69, Collin Morikawa closed out his week in Bradenton, Florida, with a massive win.

Morikawa, who led the field after 54 holes, held on to his lead to secure his fourth career win on the PGA Tour.

Morikawa won the rescheduled WGC event — which was moved from Mexico due to the COVID-19 pandemic — by three strokes. Viktor Hovland, Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel all tied for third at 15-under on the week, and Scottie Scheffler was one back of that group at 14-under.
