The recent El Clasico on 26th October has sparked significant repercussions following incidents of racist behaviour during the match. Now, as confirmed, three individuals have been arrested for their involvement in these troubling events.

The arrests, carried out by the National Police, stem from accusations that these individuals made xenophobic remarks aimed at undermining the dignity and moral integrity of certain players.

The aftermath of the match saw swift action from La Liga, which identified seven instances of violent chanting during the game.

“3 arrested for uttering insults racist remarks against 2 players during El Clasico played last October,” read a statement from National Police.

“Those arrested made xenophobic statements that violated the dignity and moral integrity,” it added.

Barcelona were awaiting judgment

These incidents were documented with evidence, including images, which were shared to assist law enforcement in identifying the culprits. Real Madrid also contributed crucial information to aid the investigation.

The situation became even more pressing as the racist insults were specifically directed at prominent Barcelona players, including Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Ansu Fati.

Barcelona had been waiting for a response from the Anti-Violence Commission regarding these incidents.

Despite the urgency of the matter, the Commission held three meetings without reaching a definitive resolution. Their official stance was that they were still in the process of analysing video footage to pinpoint those responsible for the racial abuse.

This delay in action has caused frustration among those seeking justice, particularly as the evidence appears to be substantial.

Troubles brewing

The incident highlights ongoing issues with racism in football and the need for more robust measures to address such behaviour.

Both LaLiga and Real Madrid’s prompt efforts to assist in the investigation are commendable, but the lack of immediate action from the Commission raises concerns about the efficiency of handling such cases.

As the investigation continues, there is hope that those responsible will face appropriate consequences.

The footballing community remains united in its stance against racism, emphasising the importance of creating a respectful and inclusive environment for all players and fans.
