Yahoo Sports Third time's a charm: Bills' Cole Beasley logs first career TD pass on fun trick play
Cole Beasley entered Sunday without a completed pass since high school, 0 for 2 in the NFL on trick plays.
On Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, Beasley logged his first NFL completion — and his first touchdown pass.
Beasley lined up in the slot for the Buffalo Bills at the Los Angeles 20-yard line and started in motion toward the backfield before wheeling around back toward the side of the field he came from. Josh Allen fired Beasley a lateral, and he unleashed a perfect pass to a wide-open Gabriel Davis for a score.
That made it 14-6, Bills.
This is nothing new for the tricky Bills. Since the start of the 2019 season, including playoffs, they’ve had four touchdown passes from non-quarterbacks. John Brown had one each in the 2019 regular season and postseason, Isaiah McKenzie threw a 12-yard TD earlier this season and now Beasley has joined the fun.
Perhaps it hurts Allen’s passing numbers, but it’s helping the Bills keep opponents on their toes.
Beasley was an option QB in high school, throwing for 1,570 yards and 12 touchdowns, before converting to wide receiver at SMU. He never completed (or attempted) a pass in college, but his incompletion streak came to an end in Week 12.
