'The Simpsons' throws some shade at the Ottawa Senators in latest episode

The hockey world sure had a good laugh at the dumpster fire of a regular season that the Ottawa Senators put together in 2018-19.

Making headlines for all the wrong reasons — the Erik Karlsson trade, Uber-gate, feuding spouses, and Eugene Melnyk being Eugene Melnyk, just to name a few — the Senators slowly transformed from an NHL franchise into a circus sideshow.

Jokes about the lowly Senators were aplenty, so you can’t really blame a legendary TV show like “The Simpsons” for piling on a little bit.

The long-running cartoon TV show took a jab at the Sens in their latest episode, which aired on Sunday night.

Now, I didn’t watch the episode, as my television time on Sunday night was largely dominated by Game 2 between the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche. I even had to record episode three of Game of Thrones, while trying to avoid the ubiquitous spoilers on Twitter.

But I did happen to catch the tweet above as it popped up on my thread, and it’s a doozy!

Lisa Simpson appears to be hospitalized in Canada, her family comforting her at her bedside. She seems to be a little groggy. A Canadian Mountie is also in the room, thanking Lisa for some sort of heroic act and rewarding her with her own hockey team.

“Please not Ottawa, please not Ottawa,” Lisa mumbles with her fingers crossed before the mountie puts a Senators cap on her head.

The Mounties’ response? “Yeah, I’m so sorry.”

Senators fans may not get a laugh from this, but you can bet every other hockey fan in the country probably did.
