The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, may not be the snappiest named beauty product, but it is one that’s highly sought after.
The £6.30 peel became the number one bestseller on the Deciem website in back in March, and Kaelyn White, a US teen TikToker, caused it to go viral by posting a video showing her dripping the deep red liquid directly onto her acne and gently massaging it over her face.
The video also included before and after images showing a noticeable difference - and it quickly caught beauty fans’ attention.
The affordable peel has proven to be such a hit with shoppers that it has sold out pretty much everywhere, from Deciem’s own site, to Boots, Cult Beauty, Feel Unique and Look Fantastic (to name but a few).
Why we rate it
The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution is a lightweight exfoliating formula that claims to leave the skin smoother and brighter, while also reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The formula contains AHA, as well as BHA in the form of Salicyclic Acid, both of which work to provide a deep exfoliation and unclog blocked pores.
It also includes hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5, as well as Black Carrot and Tasmanian Pepperberry, which is said to reduce irritation and smooth the skin.
It is easy to apply: simply rub it onto the face and neck with your fingertips and leave on for no more than 10 minutes before washing it off with warm water.
Deciem offers a word of caution about the product though, saying it should only be used by people who are “experienced users of acid exfoliation” as it contains “a very high concentration of free acids”, so is not suitable for sensitive skin.
Customers are advised not to use the peel more than twice a week. They should start off using it just once a week and should stop if they experience any signs of skin irritation.
This product leaves skin a little more sensitive, which is why it is essential to wear sun protection following use to protect the epidermis.
What the reviews say
With more than 5,000 reviews from Amazon customers, The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution has been hailed “the holy grail” of skincare products.
Here’s what the reviews say:
“Absolutely the best product on the market for dealing with acne, pigmentation and fine lines. I am 41 years old and suffering with adult acne and since using this my face is better than it has ever been in the last 20 years. A truly holy grail product.”
“Once it's been washed off though it really does make your skin feel incredibly clean. I've always had quite stubborn skin post-Dermatologist visits for teenage acne and I always have to pay extra attention to it to properly clean and exfoliate it, but this makes it genuinely easy for me.”
“I can’t live with out it, my face has never been cleaner and smoother.”
“I've been using this for more than 1 month. I started once week and this week I used it twice. It's amazing! My face is really smooth and it helps heal the breaks and scars.”
“This is one of the few products I'd recommend to people looking for a chemical exfoliant. The product works to remove the upper layers of skin to help clear out blackheads and make whiteheads/blemishes come to the surface to remove.”
