The Kings celebrated their unexpected night off in Philadelphia with cheesesteaks and Hennessy

Imagine you traveled to Philadelphia for business and your meeting was unexpectedly canceled. How would you spend your few free hours while waiting for the next flight out of the City of Brotherly Love?

You’d likely find somewhere to eat a cheesesteak and wash it down with an adult beverage of choice.

That somewhere for Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins, whose Sacramento Kings had their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday postponed due to condensation on the playing floor, was the visitors’ locker room at the Wells Fargo Center. And that beverage was Hennessy Cognac.

Barnes posted video of the celebration to his Snapchat, and the good folks at r/NBA preserved it.

Personally, I would’ve eaten the cheesesteak with, say, an IPA from Philadelphia’s Yards Brewing Co., but cognac and cheese is what the French call a délicieux appariement, and that’s as classy as it gets. And as Nas said in to open his “Illmatic” album in 1994, “Who got the Phillies? Take this Hennessy.”

Surely, there will be those who criticize the Kings for this decision, mostly because they’re the Kings — a dysfunctional franchise whose starting point guard pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges in September, whose backup point guard has four DUI arrests on his record and whose superstar has openly conceded, “We got some in-house issues to figure out” — but Wednesday turned into an off day, and they weren’t scheduled to play again until Friday night in Boston against the Celtics.

So, who are we to say what Barnes and Boogie can do with their free time? Especially when many of us would do the same. They couldn’t have practiced instead, because the floor was too slippery — and not from spilled Hennessy — and you can still eat cheesesteaks and sip Hennessy while watching film.

And, besides, Boogie had already put a solid day’s work on Wednesday:

Having said all that, this shouldn’t stop us from sharing this clip after every Kings loss for eternity …

… because Barnes sandwiching, “Homie got something,” and, “Off day, already started,” around Cousins holding up a bottle of Hennessy and saying, “It ain’t going to ruin our night,” is too perfect.
