The Diamondbacks will give you a gift for your bad tweets

Everyone on Twitter subscribes to the belief that they should be rewarded for every single one of their 140 character opinions. Now, they can! The Arizona Diamondbacks have introduced a Twitter vending machine at Chase Field that will give fans a free gift just for sending out a tweet.

Here’s how it works: All you have to do is walk up to the vending machine, which is sponsored by Manzanita Sol cola, and send out a tweet with the hashtag “#DbacksManSol. At that point, the vending machine will generate a code you can use to claim your prize. That prize can range from a team koozie to a $20 gift certificate for food in the ballpark, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

Fans will be limited to just one gift per game. You can’t just sit at the vending machine, tweet 50 times and keep getting gifts. That’s a good thing, too, because there’s no such thing as a good tweet. The last thing the world needs is more trash opinions on Twitter.

Overall, though, it seems like a pretty intriguing way to get fans to talk about the team on social media. The promise of a free gift is probably enough to convince some fans to tweet about the club. Who knows, some people might even join Twitter just so they can leave the game with a free D-Backs koozie.

With that said, we all know Twitter is a cesspool of horrible takes. As far as we can tell, the tweets fans send out with the #DbacksManSol hashtag don’t have to be positive in order to receive a gift. So, if you wanted to tweet “Zack Greinke!?!?!? More like Zack Stinky,” you could conceivably still get a gift from the club. If that’s the case, we’ll know soon enough. People on social media are generally terrible.

Even if the D-Backs need to make some adjustments to the idea, it’s still worth a shot. Some teams care about social media engagement, and this is a creative way for the Diamondbacks to get their fans more involved on that end.

While the vending machine goes against the No. 1 rule of Twitter (which is don’t tweet), it does come with a nice reward. Some of us are fortunate enough to make a living with our trash opinions online, but for everyone else, getting a free gift for tweeting “Catrick Porbin” sounds pretty sweet.
