The demise of Mike Gundy's mullet was almost decided by his son's test score

The Mike Gundy mullet marches on.

The Oklahoma State head coach showed up at Big 12 media days in July with the beginnings of what has turned into a glorious mullet. The photo above is the mullet, which he apparently dubbed the “Arkansas Waterfall,” in action during the Cowboys win over Texas Tech on Saturday. Below is what it looked like in July:

And in September:

That’s some nice growth out of that thing. And it will continue to grow for a pretty funny reason.

Gundy told reporters Monday that he made a bet with his son with the mullet involved. If his son got a 91 or better on a recent test, Gundy would “think” about cutting the mullet. His son got an 88, so the mullet will stay.

The Gundy mullet is a staple of the 2016 season, and with the Cowboys in the midst of a six-game winning streak, he just can’t cut it. You know if he did OSU would lose to TCU on Saturday. That’s just how these things work. It’s like science. Or something.

We need more mullet.
