Butch Jones apparently isn’t too interested in keeping the recruiting class he assembled in place at Tennessee.
After Jones was fired by UT early Sunday afternoon, a wave of Vols commitments in the class of 2018 announced they were backing away from their verbal pledges to the school. One who announced he was opening up his recruitment was three-star athlete Tanner Ingle, who told the Orlando Sentinel he had already spoken with Jones.
What did Jones tell him?
“He said he didn’t really expect that to happen, but it did so he told me to find a place to go, quickly … and if he gets anything he will contact me,” Ingle said.
Ingle told the Sentinel he will take his visits — definitely to NC State and maybe to Virginia Tech — while also keeping an eye on who the Vols end up hiring to succeed Jones, who finished with a 34-27 (14-24 SEC) record at Tennessee.
Tennessee started the season 3-1 but has lost five of its last six games. The Vols are 0-6 in SEC play after getting blown out by Missouri on Saturday, 50-17.
Defensive line coach Brady Hoke, the former head coach at Michigan, will serve as UT’s interim coach for the remainder of the season.
