Tennessee All-SEC cornerback Cam Sutton suffered a fractured ankle during the first quarter of Saturday’s win against Ohio and is out indefinitely. However, coach Butch Jones is optimistic Sutton will not miss the entire season.

“I feel for him and his family,” Jones said after Saturday’s 28-19 win. “This is an individual who is a role model for what a student-athlete is and what it takes to prepare, week in and week out. You give me 11 [players like] Cam Sutton, and we will win a lot of football games. It is very unfortunate.”

The injury could not have come at a worst time with the Vols set to open SEC play against Florida this week and then contests against Georgia, Texas A&M and Alabama to follow. Sutton, a senior, has started all 41 games in his career.

Despite the injury, Jones said Sutton is still showing the type of leadership he’d expect from one of his top seniors.
