Tempers rage as Flyers rally past Penguins

The Philadelphia Flyers gained three of a possible four points this weekend, pretty good considering they fell into early multi-goal deficits in each game, including Sunday at Pittsburgh.

The Flyers fell behind within five minutes of puck drop on goals by Pittsburgh's Steve Sullivan and James Neal, but then poured on the offence in a 6-4 win, with a strong effort in net by Sergei Bobrovsky.

Jakub Voracek scored twice for the winners, while Claude Giroux had a goal and two assists. Giroux now has 28 goals and 61 assists on the season.

Bobrovsky, called into duty due to an injury to Ilya Bryzgalov, finished with 43 saves.

The Flyers moved to 101 points, just one behind the fourth place Penguins. Each club has three games remaining.

The teams, probable first round playoff opponents, feuded with 63 seconds left after fourth-liner Joe Vitale of Pittsburgh dropped Flyers star Daniel Briere in the final minute near centre with a clean hit.

Peter Laviolette stepped onto the ledge towards Pittsburgh's bench to voice his displeasure at the act of aggression, with Penguins assistant coach Tony Granato verbally jousting back at the Philadelphia coach.

Among the fights on the ice while that was going on was a pairing between Wayne Simmonds of the Flyers and Penguins bruiser Derek Engelland.

Simmonds fought despite taking several stitches to the face in Saturday's home game against Ottawa, in which Philadelphia fell behind 3-0 before salvaging a point in a shootout loss.

A few minutes before the brouhaha, Flyers rookie Brayden Schenn got away with a crosscheck on Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby after the play.
