Yahoo Sports Apple Is Already Teasing a 'Ted Lasso' Spinoff

Get your tissues ready, because Ted Lasso very likely just wrapped its final episode. The season finale, which premiered Wednesday morning on Apple TV+, tied up a multitude of loose ends—and maybe even set up a potential spinoff. Ted left London to return home to Kansas, Roy become the new manager of the club, and Nate returned to Richmond with open arms. It's enough feel-good magic to weep for days. But this can't really be the end of Ted Lasso, right?
Since its premiere in 2020, Ted Lasso tracked the life of an American football coach who has been sent to lead a soccer team in England despite his (clear) lack of experience. Over the past three years, the show has won a handful of awards and garnered a loyal fanbase. But despite its success, Jason Sudeikis—who produces and stars in the series—confirmed there are only three seasons of Ted Lasso. "This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell," he revealed in an interview with Deadline. “The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season Three—it’s flattering."
According to the actor, fans may not be interested in a reboot after they watch the finale. “Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released]," he continued. "They’re like, Man you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it. But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far." Now that the series is over, it's easy to understand Sudeikis's comments, since everyone's stories were mostly wrapped in a nice little bow. Even so, some members of the cast believe it may be possible to continue on.
"It'll be quite emotional actually, because who knows whether it's the very, very end or not or whether there'll be more after a break," Nick Mohammed, who plays Nathan Shelley, told Esquire. "I don't know whether it comes back as a film. I've heard rumors of spinoffs... Who knows?" A Coach Nate spinoff? Sign us up! Mohammed felt it may not be "quite right" to solely focus on Nate, however, "just because that character, I feel, has been on such a journey over these three seasons already."
Well, what about one where the whole AFC Richmond team continues on? Tweeting out a photo of Nate, Roy, and Beard, Apple furthered spinoff rumors along themselves, captioning, "smells like potential." Even Mohammad retweeted the image with the zipper-mouth emoji. If that isn't confirmation, I don't know what is.

Maybe we could even get Jamie Tartt back in the fold. Actor Phil Dunster revealed in an Esquire interview that while playing Jamie was "a real gift," he does have some ideas from his own fanfiction. "It's fairly X-rated, but that was more just to try to make Brett [Goldstein] giggle." Goldstein also joked about a future as Roy Kent, telling the Sunday Times, "Spoiler alert... Everyone dies."
Jokes aside, Sudeikis hinted that a spinoff is not off the table. “I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” he said when asked about the potential for a new series. “Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do. It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely.”
Until a reboot emerges, we can rewatch Ted Lasso and preach the "Believe" gospel until we're all smiling silly. That's the Ted Lasso way.
