West Ham United sealed a much-needed win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Monday.

The Hammers had to avoid defeat to keep manager Julen Lopetegui at the club.

West Ham were unconvincing in the first half, but they grew into the game and broke the deadlock through Tomas Soucek after 54 minutes.

Matt Doherty restored parity before Jarrod Bowen struck the decisive goal to seal maximum points for the hosts.

Edson Alvarez called the win ‘special’, but he also conceded the team has not been playing well.

The 27-year-old told West Ham’s official website: “As a team, we’ve not been where we want to be for a lot of this season, but we always play to win, and Monday was particularly special.

“We just need to back it up now. We have 18 points now and there is still everything to play for.

“We all need to keep improving, but this result was important. We’ve got a lot of games coming up, and we’ll be hoping for more wins.”

Alvarez joined West Ham for £35 million in 2023.

He enjoyed a stellar debut season in the Premier League, making 31 appearances and scoring a goal.

However, he has struggled this term, making just seven top-flight starts. He has been sent off twice.

Alvarez was poor against Wolves on Monday and needs to step up his performances.
