Taika Waititi offers update on his Star Wars movie
Taika Waititi has given fans an update on his new Star Wars movie, confirming that the script is still in development.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker revealed that he's got a "really good idea" for the upcoming project, but he's still struggling to piece it all together.
"I've got a really good idea for it," he said. "It's just as with all films, it's this middle part. You're like: 'What's going to happen?' And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you're like: 'Well, I guess they can't meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick'."

Waititi has been working on the film alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Last Night in Soho) since 2020, but in June of last year, he admitted that his busy schedule is delaying the process.
"I'm going to be in New Zealand from August until the end of the year with Our Flag Means Death [season 2] and Time Bandits and during that time I will still be writing. I'm still trying to figure out what the story is," he said at the time.
As well as writing and directing the film, Variety reported earlier this year that Waititi is likely star in front of the camera, too. The outlet's report also hinted that a 2025 release date could be a possibility.

Last month, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that work on some additional Star Wars movies has already started, though nothing will be released until at least 2025.
"It's much better to tell the truth," Kennedy said. "We're going to make these movies when they're ready to be made and release them when they're ready to be released."
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
