When hockey players get upset at themselves or the way things are going in a game, sometimes the glass is a victim of some aggression. A punch here, a whack with a stick there, it’s a legal way, mostly, to get some anger out.

Fredric Weigel of Sodertalje was upset at missing an opportunity while his side was down 3-0 to Hockeyallsvenskan side IK Oskarshamn midway through the second period and, well, his frustration boiled over and he decided to introduce his stick to the glass inside his team’s bench.

That venting earned Weigel, an alternate captain, a 10-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and a trip to the locker room from his head coach.

“He has a letter on the jersey and has a great responsibility both on and off the ice,” said Sodertalje head coach Mats Waltin via Aftonbladet. “It is a question of values and how we should behave and I’m quite sure that he knows that it was crazy.”

Sodertalje would actually mount a comeback and win the game 4-3 in overtime.
