Surgery Forces Michael Bisping Off Record-Setting UFC 193 Fight Card

Surgery Forces Michael Bisping Off Record-Setting UFC 193 Fight Card

Having won back-to-back bouts after losing to Luke Rockhold late last year, Michael Bisping expected to return to the Octagon at UFC 193, which is poised to draw the largest audience in UFC history. Unfortunately, Bisping’s return will have to wait, as he suffered an injury that forced him out of his bout with Robert Whittaker.

Bisping revealed the news on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight, citing an injured elbow.

“I’m having to withdraw from UFC 193. I need an elbow surgery. It’s a minor surgery,” said Bisping.

“I apologize to everybody that bought tickets, to the UFC, to Robert Whittaker for pulling out of the fight.”

Although the injury is minor, it will sideline Bisping long enough that he won’t be ready for the Nov. 14 fight card at Ethiad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. The UFC is counting on its go-to star, Ronda Rousey, to pull in the largest audience its ever hosted, anticipating 70,000-plus people in Melbourne.

Bisping, who was hoping to build off of recent victories over Thales Leites and C.B. Dollaway and get back into title contention, won’t be part of the potentially record-setting festivities in November.

“I’m just annoyed that I’m not gonna be there to be part of it.”
