Streaking Philadelphia Eagles giving Proline supporters a lot to be happy about
The Philadelphia Eagles are giving their Proline supporters plenty to cheer about this season.
The Eagles (11-2) have reeled off nine straight wins, including a 22-16 decision Sunday over the Carolina Panthers. According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., 93 per cent of Proline players backed Philadelphia while 38 per cent had the Panthers +13.5 on the point spread.
A bright spot for Carolina (3-10) was Chuba Hubbard. The running back from Sherwood Park, Alta., ran for 92 yards and a TD to boost his season total to 1,011 yards, making him just the second Canadian to crack the 1,000-yard plateau after Rueben Mayes, of North Battleford, Sask., recorded 1,353 yards with the New Orleans Saints in 1986.
In other NFL action, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers downed the Las Vegas Raiders 28-13 with 90 per cent of bets backing the winners. Ninety per cent of Proline players also correctly picked the Pittsburgh Steelers to down the Cleveland Browns (27-14).
Miami's 32-26 overtime win over the New York Jets brought smiles to the 88 per cent of players who backed the Dolphins. And 79 per cent correctly picked the Minnesota Vikings to down the Atlanta Falcons (42-21).
The Jacksonville Jaguars, minus injured starter Trevor Lawrence, got past the Tennessee Titans 10-6 as only 14 per cent of players correctly backed the winners.
On Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs improved their record to 12-1 with a narrow 19-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Seventy-seven per cent of bettors backed the Chiefs' victory while 55 per cent had the Chargers' +4.5.
On Monday night, the Cincinnati Bengals got past the Dallas Cowboys 27-20. Fifty-six per cent of players backed the Bengals victory with 63 per cent having them at -4.5.
Ja'Marr Chase's 40-yard TD grab proved to be the game-winning play for Cincinnati while Canadian running back Chase Brown took a screen pass 19 yards down the sidelines for a touchdown. Thirty-nine per cent had Ja’Marr Chase and 19 per cent had Chase Brown as Bengals anytime touchdown scorers.
On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins downed the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 with just 15 per cent of bettors backing the winners. Another 17 per cent had the winners at +1.5 goals.
Elsewhere, 89 per cent of players backed the Winnipeg Jets' 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Sixty-nine per cent correctly predicted the Ottawa Senators' 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators while 63 per cent had the Washington Capitals beating the Montreal Canadiens (4-2).
Fifty-nine per cent of bettors backed the Edmonton Oilers' 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Last week, rosters were unveiled for the 4 Nations Face-Off, which will be held in February. The U.S. (64 per cent) is the early betting favourite ahead of Canada (29 per cent). Sweden (three per cent) and Finland (two per cent) also drew support.
Meanwhile in the NBA, the Toronto Raptors dropped a 125-118 decision to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. A solid 76 per cent of players successfully backed the Mavs' victory while 34 per cent had the +7.5 spread.
The expanded U.S. college football playoff bracket kicks off Dec. 20 with Indiana taking on Notre Dame. Eighth-seeded Ohio State (28 per cent) is the favourite -- bets have been made since the start of the season -- ahead of No. 2 Georgia (15 per cent) and No. 5 Texas (14 per cent).
Top-seeded Oregon has drawn 10 per cent support while No. 6 Penn State is at seven per cent.
