The end is near for Stranger Things with Friday marking the beginning of Season 4 of the hit Netflix show, but the cast members aren't entirely ready to say goodbye.
“It’s too soon to look back,” Natalia Dyer who plays Nancy Wheeler told Yahoo Canada, adding that it’s been particularly striking to look back at the physical and style evolution on the show through the years.
“One of the most fun things as an actor on the show, it's such an ensemble and I think all these characters are so specific that getting to see the different combinations and getting to work with different people…, just the dynamics between Nancy and anybody else, I'm always very curious.”
“It's just crazy to look back,” Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington added, reminiscing about the early scenes with Dyer in her character’s bedroom with the egg-yellow wall.
Stranger Things creators, the Duffer Brothers, confirmed that Season 5 will be last season of the show, teasing to Variety that gap between Season 4 and 5 will be "quite a bit shorter" as we reach the end of the series.
What is 'Stranger Things' Season 4 about?
Stranger Things Season 4 starts six months after the Battle of Starcourt, which resulted in this group of friends being separated for the first time, with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) now living in Lenora, California. Eleven, Will, Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) have started high school and tensions start to rise as they get older, and start to find differing interests.
Amid these growing pains, a supernatural mystery surfaces in Hawkins, which brings the group back together, but also reveals even more horrors from the Upside Down.
“I was just so happy that I get to come back, and that I got to come back and keep working with [Joe Keery] and [Natalia Dyer] and these guys,” Maya Hawke who plays Robin told Yahoo Canada. “Fostering an old relationship, building new ones was really, really fun.”
“Some of those dialogue scenes right at the beginning, I'm a sucker for those. I love everything else but those, as an actor, it's just so fun. There's a couple really awesome one-ers where everyone's just kind of talking over each other,...that just gets me really excited.”
Joe Keery added that he was particularly excited about evolving the friendship between Steve and Robin in Season 4 of the show, particularly after where we left off in Season 3.
“Now we've kind of gotten to this place of comfortability and it's fun to sort of play that out at the beginning of the show,” he added.
Aside from our old favourites, Stranger Things is still extending the cast until the very end, with the addition of Joseph Quinn as Eddie, an older high school student and the leader of The Hellfire Club, a Hawkins High School Dungeons and Dragons group that includes youngsters Will, Lucas and Dustin, who quickly gets pulled into the Hawkins supernatural horrors.
“I was just excited to be able to explore anything in this world and to have been given the opportunity to come and join in,” he said. “Obviously, even more excited to work with these people.”
“You know, you never know who you're going to be thrown in with and needless to say, I struck some gold here.”
