Steve Smith wore a Yoda onesie to his news conference because why not

Baltimore Ravens receiver Steve Smith came to his news conference Wednesday in a Yoda onesie. And it seems a little odd until you realize, who’s going to be the one to tell Smith to not wear a Yoda onesie to his news conference?

Smith is getting everything he can out of his final (right?) NFL season.

Smith’s explanation for his wardrobe choice doesn’t really explain why he was wearing it, but here goes anyway. He said he was at the Ravens’ Holiday Helper event to buy Christmas gifts for needy Baltimore-area kids when he saw it.

“It’s been a few decades since I wore a onesie,” Smith joked.

Smith made sure it fit, bought it (again, the “why?” is never really answered, but go on Steve) and then being frugal he decided he needed to get his money’s worth for it by wearing it Wednesday.

“Trying not to waste money,” Smith said.

Sure, now it all makes sense.

Smith was asked if he was a “Star Wars” fan.

“Oh yeah, yeah I am,” Smith said with a big smile, then seemed to realize he sounded a little too excited. “I shouldn’t have said it like that, but yeah I am.”

Smith might be 37 years old and famously one of the league’s fiercest competitors, but it’s good to know he isn’t taking himself too seriously.
