A chance for the home team to play in a Super Bowl is a big deal in any city.

When you get a pair of teams playing for a Super Bowl berth that have a combined zero Super Bowl wins despite playing through the entire Super Bowl era, things get turned up a notch. Or two.

The volume was raised in both Minneapolis and Philadelphia Saturday night as spontaneous pep rallies broke out during the Wild-Lightning and 76ers-Bucks games with fans of both teams belting out the increasingly popular competing rallying cries for their respective home teams.

First, Minneapolis, where the Skol clap and chant took over the Xcel Energy Center in the third period as the Wild put the clamps down on the Lightning.

On to Philadelphia, where the home crowd enthusiastically responded to a 76ers wish of good luck to the Eagles as the home team was en route to an easy win over the Bucks.

That makes for a pretty good Saturday night in both cities. Go out and watch the home team score wins, and keep the party going with the NFC championship pre-game buzz at its peak.

There was even some support in Minnesota from Twins players, who appeared to have met up in a dank Minneapolis batting cage to provide some comic relief to the passion on display from fans of their NHL and NBA counterparts.

The energy’s not quite the same there. But you can’t blame them. It is the offseason, after all.
