South Carolina football game vs. Old Dominion set to resume after lightning delay
South Carolina’s opening game against Old Dominion is set to resume after a 40-minute weather delay.
Teams returned to the field just before 5:54 p.m., with the game set to begin again on SEC Network at 5:58 p.m.
The game was stopped at Williams-Brice Stadium with 11:42 left in the second quarter because of lightning in the area and the Gamecocks leading 10-7.
A review of the weather radar showed spotty storms in and around the Columbia region.
South Carolina posted this to X/Twitter: “There is unsafe weather in the area. We are asking fans at William-Brice Stadium to please seek safe shelter at this time. If you leave the stadium, please keep your game ticket with you for re-entry into the stadium once the weather clears. We will provide updates as they become available.”
South Carolina jumped out to a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game after Kyle Kennard forced a fumble and Debo Williams recovered it at the ODU 3. Rocket Sanders took it in from 1-yard out for his first score as a Gamecock.
ODU tied it on a 72-yard pass from Grant Wilson to Isiah Paige with 12:51 left in first quarter. USC took the 10-7 lead on Alex Herrera’s 40-yard field goal with 6:09 in third.
