Sources: Thunder trade for frontcourt help

The Denver Nuggets traded forward/center Joffrey Lauvergne to the Oklahoma City Thunder for two future second-round picks, league sources told The Vertical.

The Nuggets were backloaded with frontcourt players, and the return of starter Wilson Chandler from hip surgery and the emergence of Juan Hernangomez in summer league made Lauvergne expendable. Lauvergne, 24, is in the final year of a three-year deal he signed with Denver.

The move opens a roster spot for Denver, which now has 14 guaranteed contracts.

The Thunder had been active on the market for a skilled offensive forward and now have 16 guaranteed contracts with Lauvergne.

Lauvergne was selected with the No. 55 pick overall in the 2013 draft and has averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in two NBA season. He played 59 games for the Nuggets last season, averaging 7.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 17.6 minutes in 59 games.
