Sources: OKC Thunder hiring Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Corey Evans

The Oklahoma City Thunder are hiring Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Corey Evans, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Evans, 30, is a highly respected national evaluator for Rivals who built a reputation as one of the most connected young analysts in both high school and college basketball.

Evans’ job with the Thunder is expected to be as an amateur evaluation scout. Thunder general manager Sam Presti’s move to bring on Evans comes at a time when the evaluation of high school prospects is at a premium, as a new pathway to professional basketball has been created through the NBA G League via high school.

The Thunder have 13 first-round picks in the next seven NBA drafts.

Evans began his career by starting his own scouting service, Roundball Rundown Report, in 2012. He built his reputation as a tireless worker, sleeping in his car outside high school events early on in his career. He’s been at Rivals since 2017.

Evans’ move is similar to the one made by former prominent prep recruiting analyst Dave Telep, who left the recruiting space in 2013 for the San Antonio Spurs and has risen through the front office there.

Evans is the second prominent national recruiting analyst to depart the space recently. Evan Daniels left 247 Sports in June to become a coaching agent with CAA.
