Sources: Sixers, JaVale McGee have no plans to discuss buyout

The Philadelphia 76ers and center JaVale McGee have no plans to discuss a contract buyout, clearing the way for McGee to play for the team this season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Neither the Sixers, nor McGee's agent, B.J. Armstrong of Wasserman Media Group, have broached the idea, sources said.

The Sixers completed a deal for McGee on Thursday, acquiring with him Oklahoma City's 2015 first-round draft pick that the Denver Nuggets had secured in a trade with Cleveland earlier this season.

It is unclear how 76ers coach Brett Brown would use McGee on such a young, rebuilding roster.

McGee has had two consecutive injury-plagued seasons, and has a contract that owes him $11.2 million this season and $12 million in the 2015-16 season. Denver had to deliver the first-round pick to make it palatable for the Sixers to take on McGee's contract.
