Sources: Kings' trade talks for Deron Williams hit roadblock

The Sacramento Kings' insistence on a trade package for Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams that includes center Mason Plumlee has pushed talks into a hiatus, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

After the teams' front office officials again talked on Wednesday, both sides insisted they weren't budging on Plumlee's inclusion into a proposed trade and agreed there was no use discussing the deal further in the near future, league sources said.

"Talks aren't dead, but nothing's going to happen with Plumlee involved," a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Circumstances and stances can always change, especially closer to the NBA trade deadline in February. For now, the Kings and Nets seem to be holding ground.

Sacramento point guard Darren Collison and forwards Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson were possibilities as part of a multi-player package for Deron Williams, league sources said.

The combination of Williams' massive salary and declining health and production leave the Nets with little leverage to take back much more than spare parts for the one-time All-Star guard.

Nevertheless, the Nets have an interest in unloading Williams' contract, but don't believe they'd have to attach a good young player or a draft pick to a deal.

The Kings have been pleased with Collison's impact on the roster, especially how he's emerged as a strong leader and a popular teammate. There remains a reluctance for Sacramento to move Collison in a deal, sources said, but the Nets would need a point guard to replace Williams and he'd be a solid starter at a reasonable price.

Kings interim coach Tyrone Corbin and Williams have a solid relationship dating back to their several years together with the Utah Jazz. After consecutive seasons of ankle injuries limiting his effectiveness, Williams has played better this season – if not nearly back to his past All-Star level.

Williams, 30, has two full years and $43 million-plus left on his contract through the end of the 2017 season. The Nets are motivated to shed salary and try to again reboot the franchise. Williams is averaging a career-low 15.6 points and 6.8 assists per game.
