Rutgers students could leave the team’s home opener with $1,000.

OK, the probability isn’t too high. But it exists. The school announced the return of its kickoff contest against Howard on Sep. 10.

Students get free tickets to the game and the contest applies to the opening kickoff of the second half if Rutgers elects to kick off to start the game. If Rutgers does return the kick for a TD, it will randomly select 100 students to win $1,000 each.

And yes, as many of you noted on Twitter, this is more than the player returning the kickoff for a touchdown will receive for his accomplishment. We’d also laugh heartily if Howard decides to kick the ball out of bounds on the contest kickoff.
