LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye made his first public statement since surviving the car crash that claimed the lives of Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler. Delahoussaye suffered second-degree burns and needed stitches after the accident. The impact of the crash knocked him unconscious, but woke up when the car caught fire and his legs began to burn.

There wasn’t much to come from Big Ten Media Days until Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer were asked about allegations that their programs negatively recruited against Penn State. Both coaches denied it.

Franklin alluded to it in a June Q&A with the Reading Eagle and was asked about negative recruiting on Monday. You can see his responses below.

Franklin was tracked down by Fox’s Bruce Feldman and said it was a bit of a misinterpretation.

“All I said was that every kid that we’re recruiting is also being recruited by Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Notre Dame and that they don’t have the same challenges that we have now,” Franklin said. “Then, in a separate quote, I mentioned that right now we’re (dealing) with negative recruiting. It was two separate quotes, though, over a 35-minute interview.

“I never said that any of those schools are the ones doing the negative recruiting against us. They’re not. There is one other particular school, but I didn’t name who that was.”

Later in the day, Meyer said there was no issue.

Controversy averted.

In other Big Ten happenings, commissioner Jim Delany said he likely won’t still be in charge by the time the conference’s new six-year television agreement ends. USA Today reported 2020 would be the year he steps down, though Delany told the Chicago Tribune he still enjoys working.

How sweet are these Tulane uniforms?

These Bowling Green helmets for Military Appreciation Day are cool, too. The brown center stripe has the names of 111 students from Bowling Green who have died while serving in the armed forces.

Safety concerns about kickoffs have come up recently and Miami coach Mark Richt said he wouldn’t mind getting rid of them.

Boise State and San Diego State are the favorites to win their divisions in the Mountain West.

This idea from the Associated Press is awesome. The top teams from the past 80 years will be ranked and released on Aug. 2. The AP’s rankings will be “tabulated from its more than 1,100 weekly polls.”

You won’t see an Ohio State defensive lineman on the field this fall.
