Snoop Dogg added as playable character and commentator to NHL 20 video game

Snoop Dogg? In NHL 20?

Oh come on, nephew!

How the time flies when you’re Young, Wild and Free.

It’s been nearly a year since Snoop Dogg stole the show with his commentary during a broadcast of a regular season game between the Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins. The debut during what was dubbed ‘Hockey Day in LA’ gave both the 48-year-old a taste of what it’s like to call an NHL game and fans a glimpse at the entertainment value the man of many talents is capable of providing.

EA Sports must have seen the potential as well. The newest patch to NHL 20 — released on Thursday — allows users to toss Snoop into the broadcast booth alongside James Cybulski.

This isn’t Snoop’s first time as a commentator for EA Sports, though. He was also a guest in the booth for UFC 3 in 2018.

If hearing some of his one-liners isn’t enough, gamers are now also able to play as the rapper in the ‘World of Chel’ mode. In the trailer, his character is sporting a snazzy, custom jersey with the word ‘SNOOP’ on it. According to Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat, the sweater can be unlocked by players capable of beating his Hockey Ultimate Team roster.

Snoop becomes just the latest individual from outside the hockey world to be added to the game. Back in November, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen became part of the action as well — for whatever reason.

And while the addition of Mr. D-O-Double-G is an exciting one, the best might still be to come for those that have bought NHL 20. Per Eddie Makuch of GameSpot, EA Sports has hinted Ron Burgundy — likely Will Ferrell’s most iconic character — may also be making a celebrity guest appearance in the future.

(He’s kind of a big deal. People know him.)
