Small group gets sample of food at Rock Hill’s newest food hall, and what’s to come

Rock Hill got its first taste Tuesday of the new food hall at The Power House. There will be plenty more to come.

The new food hall restaurants served samples when the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation board of directors held its annual meeting there Tuesday afternoon . Tables, kitchen gear and more came in earlier Tuesday as the food hall begins to take shape.

Flip Out Burger served signature sliders and potato salad, while Ms. Lillian’s Kitchen had fried chicken, cornbread, pimento mac and cheese and other bites. Guests could create their own Mexican street-style samples at Chilango Tacos Y Mas or try the Ramen stall offerings of Naroodle Chibi. Javesca Coffee Roasters put out an array of breakfast and other sandwiches and sweets, while The Local Scoop finished off with plenty of its small batch ice cream flavors.

A prime steakhouse, brewery and unique apartments to power next Rock Hill development

“Today is the first event we are having in the food hall here at Power House,” said Tara Sherbert, CEO of The Sherbert Group that developed the downtown property. “So the food hall is all these incredible operators that just are top of their game in what they do, and they love what they do.”

The food hall restaurateurs join Middle James Brewing Company that’s open above them, and Bareknuckle Barbershop. The Power House also has 37 luxury apartment units. There’s a large bar area just in front of the food hall operators, and outside there’s an event lawn with state and restrooms.

Sherbert said the food stall spaces will have soft openings in the coming two weeks before the full spread is up and going for good later this month.

“We will be ‘open,’ open after the 22nd of June,” Sherbert said.

The Power House project transformed a former city power plant building that dates back to 1930. The 378 Technology Center Way property is a 60,000-square-foot redevelopment of what once powered the 2.5 million-square-foot Bleachery site downtown. The iconic brick smoke stacks remain on the property.

In addition to the food hall stalls, Power House will feature an upscale steakhouse with Epic Prime. It’s part of the same restaurant family as Epic Chophouse in the Kingsley area of Fort Mill.
