SLED investigating jury tampering allegations in Murdaugh trial

South Carolina’s State Law Enforcement Division is now investigating allegations of jury tampering in the Alex Murdaugh murder trial.

SLED and the state Attorney General’s Office released a joint statement on Thursday announcing Attorney General Alan Wilson has asked SLED to investigate claims raised by Murdaugh’s defense attorneys that Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill improperly influenced the jury that found Murdaugh guilty of killing his wife and son earlier this year.

“The State’s only vested interest is in seeking the truth,” the news release says. “As with all investigations, SLED and the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office are committed to a fair and impartial investigation and will continue to follow the facts wherever they lead.”
