Ski season on pause at Seymour and Grouse, but Cypress still open

A spectacular ski season has been put on hold across the North Shore mountains as unseasonably warm temperatures and heavy rain wreak havoc with conditions.

Mount Seymour has announced it will be closed today with plans to reopen tomorrow, while Grouse Mountain has posted that its downhill area and outdoor activities are on standby until noon when conditions will be reassessed.

Cypress Mountain Resort will open as usual at 9 a.m. PT but is advising skiers and riders to "get your Gore-tex on". The morning temperature on the mountain was 4 C and heavy rain is expected to linger into the evening.

Whistler Blackcomb is also being hit by warm weather and rain. The morning temperature in the alpine is 2 C and that part of the mountain will open later this morning due to avalanche control.
