Sir Rod Stewart had a lot of fun during the Scottish Cup draw

In order to spice up the relatively mundane prospect of some people pulling plastic balls from a pot, celebrity guests are often invited to participate in cup draws. In fact, in 1991, a world-renowned American reality-television-star-turned-politician was invited to take part in the League Cup draw.

Sir Rod Stewart was the guest of honor at the Scottish Cup fifth-round draw on Sunday, where he was tasked with conducting proceedings alongside Scottish Football Association president Alan McRae and former Hibernian coach Alan Stubbs.

However, Stewart didn’t quite behave with the decorum of a Knight of the Realm – nor with the dourness usually seen during a cup draw:

The 72-year-old rocker took part in the draw shortly after watching his beloved Celtic beat Albion Rovers to put their name in the proverbial hat.

Clearly full of merriment from that result, Stewart pulled the balls in a hilariously exaggerated fashion and shouted the numbers as if he was trying to let everyone in Scotland hear the outcome, without the aid of the broadcast equipment.

The only thing more amusing than Stewart’s behavior is the completely humorless reaction of the SFA president beside him.

McRae even seemed unmoved when the legendary singer appeared to … try and put him off his stride at the conclusion of the draw:

On Monday, it was announced that the 2018 World Cup draw will take place at the Kremlin. Here’s to hoping that Sir Rod is invited to Moscow to liven up proceedings.
