Silva vs. Sonnen 2 Officially Moves to UFC 148 on July 7 in Las Vegas

Anderson Silva Unleashes, Promises Chael Sonnen Will Never Be the Same Again

Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen 2 is coming to America.

After much discussion and debate, the UFC has opted to shift possibly the biggest rematch in the sport's history to UFC 148 in Las Vegas on July 7.

Originally, Silva vs. Sonnen 2 was set to be the headliner for UFC 147 in Brazil on June 23, but the logistics for the event changed drastically when the United Nations scheduled a conference in Rio De Janeiro during the same week that UFC 147 would take place.

With more than 50,000 people expected to attend the conference, as well as dealing with security and other issues in the city, the UFC knew holding an event in Rio that week with an expected crowd nearing 80,000 could be disastrous.

So instead of bringing the fight to the home of Anderson Silva, they will instead bring the fight to the home of the UFC.

Silva vs. Sonnen 2 will now headline UFC 148 in Las Vegas on July 7 as part of what is now one of the most loaded cards in the history of the sport.

Ultimate Fighter Live coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber will battle in a five-round bout for the UFC bantamweight title as the new co-main event. The card also features several other top fights including Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le, Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch, and Tito Ortiz's final fight as he faces Forrest Griffin.

UFC president Dana White also stated that the new card for UFC 147 will still take place, but a venue has not been secured as of yet. The card may also feature featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who could be shifted into the main event slot with the loss of Silva vs. Sonnen 2.
