Silva on reacting to semi-final defeat, 'being ready' and Newcastle cup tie

Marco Silva has been speaking to the media before the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • On responding to being knocked out in their Carabao Cup semi-final in midweek: "We gave everything in the game. Our mood wasn’t the best but we have had good conversations with the players. The best way for us to be [ourselves] again is [to] go well in the Newcastle match."

  • The semi-final has not adversely affected preparations for facing Eddie Howe's side: "We are going to be ready for the game. We will go to play the game and give our maximum and being at the Cottage is important. We will do our maximum to be ready."

  • He wants to take advantage of the Magpies' recent struggles, particularly away from home: "The run is not the best for them. In the Premier League, these types of things can happen. They have enough quality to change it quickly."
