When it comes to Radio 1 veterans, none do it quite like Nick Grimshaw.

Affectionately referred to as ‘Grimmy’, the Oldham-native has nestled his way into the heart of the nation with his quick witticisms, affable Mancunian inflection, and stellar sneaker collection (just me that clocked that one?).

When he’s not accompanying us on our journeys home with his drive time Radio 1 show (he made his first appearance on air aged 22), he can be found waxing lyrical about the week’s telly on Celebrity Gogglebox with his niece Liv.

As he gears up for a his first Christmas in the capital, we caught up with Grimmy to find out which independent businesses from Shop London he’ll be championing this year.

Which part of London do you call home?

Stoke Newington.

What are your go-to independent businesses in your neighbourhood?

Jaines & Son for fish, We Are Facility for framing, and Primeur for dinner.

What does Christmas 2020 look like for you?

I’m having my first ever London Christmas this year rather than travelling home to Manchester. It’s just going to me, my boyfriend, and the dogs having a walk then all eating a lot.

What is on your Christmas wish list this year?

I think 2020 has been such a year for perspective that I genuinely am just happy to have my family and friends being happy and healthy.

Which independent brands from Shop London will you be buying from this winter?

I love buying gifts for people, I’ve been getting things framed from Facility in Dalston. Goodhood in Shoreditch is also perfect for mooching for presents.

What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever given or received?

My boyfriend bought me one gift for every day of December last year which was insanely overwhelming.

What’s your failsafe Christmas gift idea?

Get an old photo that’s special to someone framed.

How do you treat yourself?

I love nothing more than ordering too much Chinese food and having three servings.

What has this year taught you?

Gratitude. My year has been marked by minor events like a really good cup of tea i had with my producer one random Tuesday, and I’m so happy with that.

What are your new year’s resolutions?

To keep on remembering who is important to me and how to look after them.
