Karlsson exited Friday night’s contest against the Winnipeg Jets with just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest and did not return.
The injury will require surgery, but it is expected that Karlsson will be fully recovered when the Sharks begin training camp for the 2020-21 season this September.
Karlsson played 56 games this season, recording six goals and 40 points.
Both San Jose and Karlsson had seasons to forget, as the Sharks have largely disappointed in 2019-20, owning a record of 25-28-4.
