Westlife’s Shane Filan has been left heartbroken at the death of his father, Peter.

The 41-year-old Irish singer shared his grief with his fans on social media, just 10 months after he lost his mother Mae, in December 2019.

Filan posted on Instagram: “Yesterday Sunday the 4th of October my heart was broken. I lost the most important man in my entire life, my dad Peter.

"He was my best friend, my guidance through life and an absolutely amazing father. He was my hero.

"He died peacefully in his sleep in the amazing care of the medical team of St Vincent's Hospital, Hawthorne Ward and my brother Peter.

"I can't thank the staff of St Vincent's Hospital enough, for the incredible care they all gave him over this last year."

Filan revealed last year that his mother had passed away on 15 December 2019, which he called “the saddest day of my life”.

Filan’s bandmate Kian Egan was also among those to send condolences.

He wrote on Instagram: “We will be there for you brother through this very sad time. She was an amazing woman.”

Filan married his childhood sweetheart Gillian Walsh in 2003. They have three children – Nicole, 15, Patrick, 12, and Shane, 10.
