Severe weather forecast prompts Muscogee County School District athletics schedule changes

Columbus may see a wintry mix with freezing temperatures in the area, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather forecast for the Columbus area, predicting a chance of snow and freezing rain from Thursday night into Saturday, has prompted the Muscogee County School District to announce changes to its sports schedule:

The following boys and girls high school basketball games were moved to Thursday:

  • Columbus at Shaw

  • Central Carroll at Northside

  • Spencer at Kendrick

  • Carver at Hardaway.

The Sumter County at Jordan boys and girls basketball games also were moved to Monday.

The MCSD middle school swim meet was moved to Thursday.

Recent forecasts show that Columbus could get freezing rain which could mix with sleet or snow Friday morning before turning to rain Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
