7 Steelers try to tackle LeGarrette Blount, but he refuses to go down

There was one play that summed up the New England Patriots’ effort through the first three quarters of Sunday’s AFC championship game, as they built a 33-9 lead.

On a red-zone run in the third quarter, LeGarrette Blount was hit at about the 10-yard line. He kept driving forward. Some Steelers defenders converged to stop him. Then another joined in. And another. By the end of the play, seven Steelers were trying to gang tackle Blount, who finally went down at the 1-yard line.

You won’t see an NFL running back push seven defenders that far very often, but Blount wasn’t going to be denied.

On the next play, Blount scored a touchdown. He finished with 47 yards on 16 carries in New England’s 36-17 victory.

The Patriots came out for the game on fire, with Tom Brady hitting everyone, receiver Chris Hogan having a career day and the defense slowing down the Steelers’ dangerous offense.

There were plenty of highlights, but Blount’s tough run epitomized how the game was going for both teams.
