Seletti’s Latest Born From a Game of Scrabble

MILAN — When Stefano Seletti and Alessandro Malossi play Scrabble, the board tells it like it is.

Seletti, the Italian brand known worldwide for its surrealist, provocative designs, has teamed with rising digital artist Malossi for Tiles and Tales, which includes objects for the home and tableware items: mats, vases, mirrors, cushions, deck chairs and everyday accessories like pouches. Since 2016, Malossi, 31, has worked with major international brands like Calvin Klein, Nike, Trussardi and Hogan.

At the Seletti presentation of the collaboration, phrases like Coffee Supports People were intertwined with the three-letter word Cup on a Scrabble board, while more cheeky ones like Food were crisscrossed with the phrase Finish or Go Die, which was emblazoned onto a plate.

At a private party at the Seletti Milan store, Malossi told WWD that how he speaks through his art is who he is in daily life. “I am just real,” he said, adding that a famous Italian pop star Gaia introduced him to Seletti. In a handwritten note published on his Instagram page, he explained that it was a lifelong dream to meet Seletti and there was “immediately synergy” between the two. A teaser published on social media displays the two in a heated Scrabble showdown.

Seletti, the aesthete famous for designs like his Monkey lamp and Lipstick motif, said the design-forward brand is focused on collaborating with young artists to discover new languages and forms of expression. “Alessandro’s fresh approach and his ability to dialogue with the present were the ideal match for our vision, and the result is a novel and unconventional collaboration,” said Stefano Seletti, artistic director of the family-owned company.

The collection features glasses priced at 22 euros and mirrors priced at 50 euros, available on Seletti’s website and in stores.
