Seahawks sign Blair Walsh, which could mean end of Steve Hauschka's time in Seattle

Seattle Seahawks kicker Steve Hauschka, who has been with the team since 2011, is set to become an unrestricted free agent in a few weeks, and on Thursday the Seahawks made a move that may spell the end of Hauschka’s time with the team.

Seattle signed Blair Walsh, who started the 2016 season with the Minnesota Vikings but was released after nine games for poor performance.

Walsh missed four of 16 field-goal tries and four extra points before the Vikings released him. The 27-year old is familiar to Seahawks fans for missing a 27-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the Vikings’ wild-card playoff game with the Seahawks 13 months ago, allowing Seattle to hold on for a 10-9 win.

Now Walsh, who has been on the street since his November release, will get a second chance with a new team.

Hauschka made 33-of-37 field goals this season, but missed six extra-point attempts. He missed a 28-yard field goal in the closing seconds of Seattle’s game with Arizona on Oct. 23; the miss meant the game ended in a tie. When the Seahawks met the Cardinals later in the season, Hauschka had a 45-yard attempt blocked and missed a fourth-quarter extra point in a 3-point loss.
