Seahawks announce Russell Wilson is getting divorced

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is getting a divorce.

He and his high school sweetheart, the former Ashton Meem, have been married for two years.

They got married in Richmond, Va., in January 2012 a few months prior to Wilson being selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft.

“I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” the Seahawks said in a statement. “Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter.”
