Scattered showers and thunderstorms were predicted in the Kansas City metro on Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 5 p.m., storms were moving east through the metro area that were capable of brief downpours and pea-sized hail, the weather service said on Twitter. The storm activity was expected to end around sunset.

Some spurts of rain arrived downtown Wednesday around rush hour. Images captured by Kansas City Scout cameras showed congestion on some area highways as of 5:30 p.m..

The forecast for Thursday also contains a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said. Severe weather was not expected, and clearer skies were predicted to arrive by Friday.
