Evander Kane tears into NHL after getting 3-game suspension

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane was given a three-game suspension from NHL Player Safety on Saturday for a high hit on Winnipeg Jets defenceman Neal Pionk.

The hit, which occurred with roughly six minutes to go in the third period during Friday’s match-up, involved Kane raising his elbow and making contact with Pionk’s head while the blueliner was in a vulnerable position.

Kane released a statement via his Twitter account regarding the NHL Department of Player Safety’s decision to suspend the forward.

Pionk did not seem to be overly shaken up by the check and remained in the game.

Kane will be serving his second suspension of the season. The 28-year-old was handed down a three-game ban earlier this year for an incident with an official. He sat out the first three games of the 2019-20 season because of it.

In 54 games this season, Kane leads the Sharks with 21 goals and is second among forwards in points with 37.

Across 59 games, Pionk has recorded six goals and 38 points with the Jets.
