Sadio Mane believes Liverpool FC “can beat any team in the league” but insists it is too early to talk about winning the title, despite their poor run of recent form.

Liverpool have struggled of late and have not won in four games since Mane’s red card against Manchester City led to an embarrassing 5-0 thrashing at the Etihad.

Since that defeat they had also been held 2-2 to Sevilla in the Champions League and 1-1 to Burnley in the Premier League – both at Anfield – before losing 2-0 to Leicester City to be knocked out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side’s positive attacking start before that saw them score eight goals in three games – including four against Arsenal – and it is those results which lead Mane to question why the title isn’t possible if they take each game at a time.

“Honestly, it is too early to talk about the title,” Mane, who has one game remaining of his three-game ban, told ESPN FC. “We are not focused on other teams, just on ourselves, and we know we can beat any team in the league.

“These kind of results [no win in four games since the Arsenal victory] can happen in any team, but we will do our best to change the situation. We will try to take it game by game, and why not win it at the end?

“Sometimes it [a bad start] can happen in football, but the most important thing is the reaction and it is important to do that. We have a great team and great qualities in the team, and I think we will do it [respond.]”
