Sacramento police arrest woman initially detained in North Natomas fatal stabbing

Sacramento homicide detectives have arrested a woman who was initially detained by officers Sunday morning at the scene of a fatal stabbing in North Natomas.

Angelina Hernandez, 32, was arrested on suspicion of homicide in the stabbing of a man in the 1800 block of Club Center Drive, the Sacramento Police Department announced Monday afternoon in an updated news release.

Hernandez was booked at 8:35 p.m. Sunday at the Sacramento County Jail. She remained in custody Monday and was being held without bail. She’s scheduled to make her first appearance on Tuesday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court.

About 10:40 a.m., officers were called to the scene near an apartment complex. Police said the incident was initially reported as an assault. Officers arrived and found a man suffering from a life-threatening stab wound.

Officers detained Hernandez at the scene as others provided emergency medical aid to the wounded man, police said. Medics arrived and took the man to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Ajohn Livingston Gayle, 33, of Sacramento.

The Police Department has not released any details about the circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing, however, police officials said on Sunday that detectives believe the stabbing “was an isolated incident” and “there is no outstanding public safety risk.”
