This Morning’s Ruth Langsford has opened up about her grief over her sister’s suicide, saying she still cries in the shower.

The TV star’s sister Julia Johnson took her own life in 2019 at the age of 62, after battling depression for many years.

Langsford, 60, said it “still feels like yesterday” and that she still cries over the loss of her sibling – but is also determined to “live a happy life in her memory”.

According to reports, she told Prima magazine: “I've learned now that I can have those moments; sometimes, I have a good old cry in the shower and feel better for it. I think it's good to have a loud, snotty cry.”

However, Langsford said “you can't spend your whole life crying” as it’s important to go forwards with your life.

The presenter, who is married to her This Morning co-host Eamonn Holmes, previously revealed that she considered quitting television completely after her sister died.

She told Best magazine: “It seemed wrong to be cheery on screen, when, inside, my heart was breaking.”

However, Holmes persuaded her to go back to work in her sister’s memory.

She revealed: “Eamonn pointed out that he was, in effect, losing not one, but two of the most precious people in his life - Julia and me. He showed me how I had so much to live for in Julia's memory – and beyond.”

Announcing Johnson’s death on Twitter in June 2019, Langsford wrote: “My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever. “
