There’s no denying that the Internet has impacted essentially every aspect of human existence in today’s society. From the way we connect with others to how we learn, it has a firm grasp on our lives.

Based on a celebration from a Russian hockey player representing his country recently, the Internet appears to also be having an influence on how people react to finding the back of the net.

After scoring during men’s hockey competition at the 2019 FISU Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Russia earlier this month, Danil Kvartalnov pulled out this unique celly on home soil.

By wiping his stick’s blade with his glove and sprinkling the snow collected, the 21-year-old may have been tipping his cap to Salt Bae, a Turkish chef whose technique for seasoning meat became a viral sensation a few years ago.

(Why? I don’t know. It’s the Internet.)

Garret Sparks, the backup goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is apparently very on board.

Whether you’re a fan of it or not, it’s probably safe to assume that the other squads competing were “salty” about the play Kvartalnov and his Russian Federation teammates.

They went 7-0 at the tournament — including a 3-2 win over the United States in preliminary round action and a 5-1 victory over Canada in the semifinals — to capture gold. (Canada did go on to defeat Kazakhstan 3-0 in the bronze medal game, though).

The Universiade, which can be of the summer or winter variety, is essentially the Olympics for college and university students. The 2019 Winter Universiade had about 3,000 athletes participate from 58 nations in 11 sports.
